A case of the Mondays...

It's cold and rainy and I wish I was sitting here... with him.

Fashion Friday

Well, I was was excited to post my super cute outfit this week, but the pics turned too dark to do it justice. I guess I'll have to wear it again :) On the day of my re-takes, this was the weather:
This is the view from John's desk, isn't it awesome? It was only like that for about 10 minutes, but the forecast had us expecting it all day, so I was dressed like this:
I've actually worn my motorcycle jacket most of this week and I do feel badass wearing it, especially with the tall boots. I'm going to try not to do phone pics for outfit shots, but I loved my outfit last Saturday, the day I got the new phone. I think it broke some fashion rules for matching boots and coat or purse and coat or boots and purse... no wonder I'm confused about it. However, I feel it was tied together because I had on rhinestone earrings and a necklace, which matched the pockets of my jeans and my boots and belt were both black.
oh, and my hair matched my purse :)

Home is where the heart is

You know some of those things in your house that you walk by and always make you smile? I'm going to share some. First, our house is super colorful. When we moved in we painted almost everything and I'm proud to say that we have no white walls. I tried to tie the rooms together by keeping one color consistent as you pass from room to room. In some rooms, I painted the inside of the door frame a different color than the rest of the frame so that when the door is open, a little slice or color peeks out. So, the colors make me happy. Also, every time there are flowers, I put them here. I love when they match the painting.
This was by accident, but I moved the deer candle to the fish tank when I got the bird candles above, and I love how it perfectly opposes the crazy plant in silhouette.
Oh, how I scoured the magnet pile for "I," "am" and "the" when I saw this walrus. I laugh at my hilarity each time I reach for the nearby bottle opener. (Also, bonus for the nearby random NoDak magnet from a motorcycle trip.)
Our crazy, short tailed, possibly learning disabled cat Pickles, in the only picture I have of her looking interested in me.
Toki, our beloved fat cat, glaring at me because of the empty food bowls.
and this guy. Although this picture isn't taken at home, he's who I share it with and it's perfect.

One for the history books...

What started as a very normal weekend took a twist that we will not soon forget. It started innocently enough as I got ready to meet John downtown, where we were going to join our friends Char and Dave for a fund raising event. I was finishing the last of my work emails as I curled my hair and Toki helped me figure out what to wear...
When I got downtown, John and I had a pre-func drink before meeting up with Char and Dave. We were fancy!
We got to the event and were having a good time. As we were having dinner, I kept noticing how one of the dishes tasted weird. I chalked it up to me being unsophisticated and ate it anyway. Shortly after this, I realized that if I didn't get out of there in short timing, that dinner was going to find it's way back to the surface. We apologized and made a hasty retreat to a cab and made it home before I got sick.
The next day I felt fine and we took off for an adventure filled day. I couldn't find my wallet, but had switched purses that morning and just figured I had gotten distracted halfway through and the wallet didn't make the transition. (you sense what's happening here, don't you?) Well, later that day, shortly after we'd arrived home, I got a facebook message on my fancy new phone (shown below) from a guy who said he worked for the club "Dirty" and had found my wallet.
In the toilet. In my poor state on the way home, I had taken my wallet out to pay the cabbie and apparently never put it back into my purse. I called the club guy and my credit cards and cash were gone (of course) but my ID was there with a couple of my other cards. He'd found me because I had a card that pointed to this blog. Through there he tracked me down on Facebook. It was late and we'd been out all day but in a bizarre moment, John said "Let's just go downtown and pick it up!" We grabbed a cab and stopped and the Club Dirty to retrieve it. It was in an envelope and when I mentioned something about opening it, the guy said "Here, you'll need these" and handed me rubber gloves. We thanked him and decided that we'd grab a drink while we were downtown and made our way to the Dixie Tavern. They needed to card me to get in, so I put on those rubber gloves and opened the envelop to get my wallet, open it, and display its still wet contents. They did not ask to inspect it further.
We ended up dancing and having a really good time and an endless amount of jokes with our situation...
No one had tried to use the cards, so all's well that ends well. I'm keeping the envelope in my hope chest's box of memories and next time something tastes weird, I think I'll just skip it and plan to grab a snack later on.

Fashion Friday

First off, I've been wanting to do a series of shots by this old car and I love them so much I'll probably do it again. Also, I LOVED this outfit. I felt comfortable and cute and fun all day. The sparkly wrap skirt is the best of Goodwill treasures: Bebe for $7. The denim shirt is also a Goodwill score and is one of my go-to staples. I added my favorite boots and some chunky jewelery (Amy's necklace, again. I wear that thing all the time. Thanks Ames!).

Work is fun...

One of the guys in support was moving to a new position on another floor and in honor of his last day, there was a "dress like Devon" theme. He's the one in the black hoodie, skinny jeans, cap and glasses. As you might tell from the rest of use, he owns a pair or turquoise pants, which most of use chose to mimic..
Also, one of the guys we work with was celebrating his 50th birthday and we crafted up this hilarious birthday picture of him as Bosley to our Charlie's Angels....
We outsourced the photoshopping for this as my homemade, non-software version that hangs on the wall lacks the finesse of electronically enhanced version.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Husband and I unintentionally (but adorabley) color coordinated today at work.
(thanks Kate for taking our picture!)

Eating Cheap is so 2010.

If it's fresh and healthy and delicious and local, dammit, it's not going to be cheap!

Fashion Friday

Brand new hand-me-down=instant wear! Kim had this in her pile of stuff to get rid of and I snapped it right up. I was thinking about what to wear it with and as I hung some clothing options out for the week, I noticed that it matched my favorite red skirt! I paired it with my brown tights and boots, my brown cowgirl belt, and some brown jewelery and I loved it all day!
I made this earring and necklace set years ago by deconstructing an old necklace of my grandma's and I love the wooden look with my cowgirl belt.
A low ponytail completed my cowgirl ensemble!Today represents a whole year of Fashion Fridays! It's my work-a-versary! I started these posts as a way to make myself step out of my comfort zone (and my habit of jeans and hoodies from my time spent working from home) and commit to wearing cute outfits all the time (or 90% anyway) and incorporate more color into those outfits. With a few additions to my schedule (always have options the night before because in the 10 minutes I have to get ready, there's no time to waste!) I think I can call it a success! Also? I love my job :)

Adventure: Snowshoeing!

Thanks to another fabulous suggestion by Groupon, we woke up Friday morning to start our snowshoe excursion. We were picked up downtown by a big ol' van and headed out to the gorge...
We stopped to enjoy some of the beautiful scenery without the usual crowds of people that tend to congregate on a weekend day.
Multnomah Falls, as it always is, but I like it in black and white.
I have to admit, I usually never want to stop here because the people and parking are crazy, but we almost had it to ourselves that morning.
Don't jump, John!

We also stopped at the Columbia Gorge Hotel. We love this spot because years ago, John married two of our friends there (to each other, he doesn't have another family) and we have fond memories of the wedding weekend.
Once we got to the top of the mountain, we had lunch inside the giant lodge. I love the huge snowdrifts outside.
Then, we strapped on our shoes and hit the trail!
Thankfully, the wind died down once we got in the trees. It was beautiful!

We started out going downhill, which was super fun.

Uphill was pretty intense in places...
...especially the final stretch back to the lodge.
but we were rewarded with delicious beers. victory.
