Catching up

After our crazy past couple weeks, this weekend we rested, drank some wine, laid in the sun, rode the motorcycle,

 and painted the flamingos.

fragile

A very crazy few weeks:  diagnosis, surgery, hospital, recovery at home, parents in town, work, and dance.  I have tried very hard to keep everything together and organized and logistically sound.  I've tried to be emotionally strong for John.  I've tried to be a good daughter while my parents were here at a rather inconvenient time and have fun and keep the scariness of the cancer conversations to a minimum.  I've tried to keep everything at work under control so that my absence wouldn't be felt. I've been my regular bouncy self at dance and students who aren't personal friends have no idea that John has a cancer battle. I've tried to take care of myself in the midst of all of this because I can do none of those things if I am not strong.  My parents left yesterday.  John has been going to work half days this week and while.  My boss told me today that  I am doing a great job.  I don't have any dance choreography on my schedule until after Memorial Day.  I can slow down.  However, every time I have done that today I get tears and I'm not quite ready for that yet.

Day 22- the last thing you bought Coffee for the recovering patient Photobucket
Day 23 - vegetable We've lived here for 8 years and never planted a garden, but carrots grow in our flower box every year.

and it's only fair to include the accompanying conversation....
Katharine Hyzy: Are you certain that's a carrot? It looks suspiciously like a poppy.
Sara Sparkle: yeah im pretty sure thats a poppy they smell just like carrots its so weird.
Shannon Schlothauer: it could totally be a poppy. my thumbs aren't very green.
Jen Hecht: Uh, dude, that's a California poppy. And I love you.
Shannon Schlothauer: you had to tell me the purple flower in my front yard was an artichoke too. I better stick to fishes

Day 24 - something you're grateful for I could probably write a post a day for a year on this one, but today I am happy for being in a relationship that can weather storms. Better, worse, richer, poorer, sickness, health. We've done them all and we still like each other.

Day 25 - looking down tiny pools. Photobucket
Day 26 - black+white Once upon a time, we found some old photos in a coffee can in the basement of a house that's not in either of our families (don't worry, it was legit). Unable to bear them being lost to the world, I took them home and put them under a cinder block for 6 months to take out the coffee can curl. Then I put them into a photo album and under the cinder block for another 6 months. Finally, they would lay straight. I recently scanned them and they scanned beautifully. This is one of my many favorites. Photobucket

Photo Challenge - Weekly Recap

Day 14- how you feel today well, I feel lots today. I'm happy that John feels good on his last Saturday before surgery, I'm relieved to have our taxes (paid, ugh) done. i feel on top of all of my domestic to-dos for the upcoming week: house is clean, groceries gotten, laundry done. I am glad I had time to sunbathe on the new cement for a bit - where I took this pic. As I post this, I feel that I am grateful for a yard guy that I can have come over with a simple text and glad that the neighborhood kitties we feed (represented today by that fluffy black puff) are getting to the point where being in the yard together is OK. While our impending week is epic and scary, I feel calm and prepared as this battle commences.

. Day 15 - sunset oh man, I can't wait to go back to Maui. Photobucket Day 16 - flower Spring, springing. Photobucket

Day 17 - something you don't like I have to say when I scanned the April Challenge topics, I didn't know what I'd put for this one. I pretty much see the world through rose colored glasses. Little did I know that since the time I first saw it and the actual day, that my husband would be re-diagnosed with cancer and surgery would be scheduled for today. I can honestly say that I do not like the time between when my husband is taken from me for surgery prep and the time before I talk to the doctor post-surgery. Photobucket Day 18 - hair He can't stop me from posting this because he can't catch me :)

Day 19 - orange This house's yard full of orange tulips make me happy every day coming home from the hospital.

Day 20 - something you drew Funny timing, I just ran across this doodle that I was doing when I was pondering my shoulder tat. Photobucket

Something awesome

I have long threatened to pave our yard. I guess that spinning it as a pathway for the bike worked because this spring, John agreed with me! We got a referral from Nic and Kim and got a good deal and made it happen!!

It's so neat and clean. I have been suntanning in the back and yesterday we worked on our fence in the front. When we were done, I was able to sweep away the sawdust. I even washed my car so that it was clean enough to sit on the fancy new cement!
