Sunday Funday

Something we like to do on a pretty regular basis is go down to Hawthorne and have a beer and split a sandwich at Bridgeport and people watch. John has mentioned that eons ago when he moved here, the Bridgeport in NW was really cool and we should do that some day. OK, awesome, cuz another thing we like to do is jump on the ol' mass transit and go drinking, now there was a new destination. Sunday was the day. We each got in a bit of a workout (you gotta earn it), looked up the address on the interwebs and headed out to catch the bus, then the train, to the neighborhood of our destination. When we got there, we walked in the door to a full house of what appeared to be post-church drinkers and snackers with loud children. I don't even think Jesus would have hung around there to drink with them. We didn't either. We were out of there and we talked about exactly how long it had been since John had been there and certainly, times had changed but at least we gave it a shot. We'll stick to our window seats at the Hawthorne location. Not to give up on our grand plan though, we walked down a couple streets to the Rogue. There, we saddled up to the bar and had a very nice afternoon of some beers and calamari.

and some oyster shooters.....
bottoms up!
For dessert, some coffee and our first, but certainly not our last, trip into Cupcake Jones. Maybe next time the cupcakes will last long enough to have thier photo included in the post adventure blog.

Oh wait! one more!

Freshly stolen from Jen's Facebook......

80's!

I remember the 80's.... getting ready for a school dance, listening to the Tiffany cassette, deciding which of my little crop tops to wear with my stone washed Jordache jeans with the ankles held tight bit a zipper with a bow on top. I'd wear three watches and at least a couple pairs of socks layered over my jeans. I had blue mascara and hair that on a good night, would be ratted out to the width of my shoulders..... ah, those days were fun. Luckily, these days, people can throw 80's themed parties! Our lovely friend Jen threw one such party this weekend for her birthday. John rocked it....
I am kind of sad that I didn't hold on to those lovely Jorchaches, but I managed nonetheless. Do we get bonus points for wearing legwarmers that I actually had in the 80's? oh, my earrings too. totally legit.

The Jens.
Oh, did I mention there was also roller skating! it was like, totally radical.
PS: in 1987, I was a 7th grader, Birthday Jen was 10, and John was graduating high school :)

Showtime!

Tonight starts a run of Sugar Q shows that will go until the end of March. It's so fun and something that for the rest of my life, I will be so glad that I get a chance to do, to be a showgirl. It's also a big commitment. Every Thursday, rain or shine, regardless of your day and whether or not you are sick or not in the mood to dance, the show must go on. and it must be good. Burlesque is fun. and funny. and its our job to be entertaining! It's also a big commitment on the part of our mates, who already have been experiencing "practice tonight, i'll be home late. love you!" Now the show is their commitment as well. I'm lucky. John is super great about going to the shows and when he's there, hooting and hollering and just being awesome. He's always the first to laugh when there needs to be a laugh and to make a funny comment. I hear him when i'm on stage and from the dressing room as someone else is performing. I love it that he's not only there, but enjoys himself week after week. I know its not always where he wants to be, but he's always there and always great.

Something I loved about the last run, and am looking forward to this time around, is the feeling of Thursdays: Show Day. Thursdays become a day in the week to truly look forward to and on each Thursday, I go about my business feeling like I have this nifty little secret. Today, I have my hair in a braid and no make-up on. I am going to go out for a jog and then to the grocery store. No one will notice me. My name is Shannon, random girl. But later this afternoon, I will go upstairs to transform. I will curl my hair and put on fancy make-up and false eyelashes rhinestone jewelery and glitter and pack up my hangers of sparkly costumes. I am Strippy Longstocking.

See you at the Theatre!

Not fooled.....

So we went to the coast this weekend for a much needed break from reality. They have lots of cool murals but this one seemed out of place...
Celebrate what you've got, Newport. You can't compete with this.

Short and Sweet....

What I should be doing right now is working on my choreography for tonight. I haven't even started. or listened to the song that I'm going to use. But, its been a while since I updated here and wanted to do that too. Something that sucks is that I had to give my laptop back to my old employer. boo. I was kind of hoping it was my going away present. John said I could borrow one of his but its still different and weird and I don't want to mess anything up. Anyway.... We are usually really good about escaping for a weekend at least once a month and recently we've needed it more than usual. Mexico seems like a long time ago. So off we went to the coast. I have lots of fun little stories and pics, but since I'm in a hurry, I'll just share our adventure to the "antique" shop. This, apparently, is Julie. between the photo she chose for this album cover and it's not so kicky title, Julie doesn't look very fun.

and this is just wrong. Funny, but wrong,
I did find this awesome hat though. I hope it inspires choreography! See you later!

Are you ready for some cuteness?

Our last cat, Lenny (who was unfortunately just a miserable, miserable life form) had this cute habit of putting his cat toys, and anything else he considered a treasure, into his food bowl. We thought it was the cutest cat thing ever.

Then Little Black Kitty moved in. and then she busted out this:

I never thought of milk as a finger food.

Dear Britney,

I heard that there is a chance that you might cancel your tour due to your lame ex-husand being lame. If that happens, how about I go in your place and take my students?

call me.

love,
shan
