The X(mas) Files

Once we got ourselves together after Chrashmas '09, and had a whiskey and a shower, we decided to head downtown to see what we could find that was open and serving beverages. We had looked at a list of places that were open last year, so we had some ideas. Not on the list, but seemingly always open, was the Heathman, where we stopped for round one and two of holiday cheer.
As we left to continue out journey, and quest for snacks, we realized that although we looked at the list of places open last year, we did not zoom in to see what TIME they opened. We did find one though, Mary's.
We had a fun night of drinks and strippers. It's probably the same thing Joseph did on Christmas when Jesus was born. Our weekend continued with a steady stream of relaxing and fun and drinking ...
by Sunday, even LBK wanted to join in the festivities.
(Disclaimer: Ashleigh, we did not let her drink the beer.)

Well, I didn't see that coming.....

If you've been around me at all, you have probably heard me talk about the Jillian Michaels workouts. I love them. John, who's around me a lot, has heard enough that it piqued his interest enough to do some with me the day of Christmas (the gym was closed anyway, so he didn't lose any man points). We slid the coffee table out of the living room and did the first 20 minute one and then decided to do one more and call it good. At the end of the second one, we were doing jumping jacks or something and all of a sudden...CRASH! Shit! We have a 5 foot bookcase in the living room and on top of it is a lamp, a candle holder, and the betta tank. Next to it, I usually sit in the chair and put my laptop on a short, foldable table. All of our ruckus had shaken the bookcase enough that the betta tank had scooted to the edge until it fell. ..directly onto my laptop. Water and gravel were everywhere, poor Bob was flopping on the floor and the laptop was wet and smashed. I grabbed Bob and threw him into a big tank and JJ grabbed the laptop and tried to dry it was quickly as possible. As he worked on that, I tried to dry up the floor and scoop up gravel. About an hour later, we had done the best we could. Currently, the laptop is in a large bag of rice, to dry it out. We aren't holding much hope though, I think the weight of the tank landing on it did as much, or more damage than the water. John has set me up with an account on his laptop and I have spent the last two days feeling very relieved that I have been so diligent about always backing my photos up to the storage drive. I didn't lose anything.* Well, except the laptop. And Bob, who survived the three foot free fall onto the computer, is making himself at home in the big tank. I told him next time he wants to get on the internet to please just ask.

*Recently, John's company gave everyone new ipod nanos. I had been wanting a new one for a while as my old one is small and every time I want to add a song, I have to go remove something first. John totally gave me his brand new ipod. In switching to it, I had to upgrade my itunes and the new ipod holds all of my music. I did not have most of my purchased itunes backed up (most of my music from cds and whatnot lives on the storage drive, so it was fine) and was worried they might be lost. However, with the new ipod, and upgraded itunes, I was able to simply transfer my purchases from the ipod to my itunes. I had to redo the playlists, but everything was there. +10 bonus points for John and his technology generosity.

Present!

The other half of our BFFJJJS Team, Jen and Jen, are on vacation for the holidays. But before they left, we hooked up for "Welcome home, we missed you" (for us) and "Have a good trip, we'll miss you" (for them) drinking festivities.
...and they brought us a PRESENT!
For years, I have wanted those cool little magnet words that you put on your fridge to make hilarious sayings. The Jens have some and I lusted after them (the magnets, not the Jens) a little on Thanksgiving at their (the Jens',not the magnets') house. Much to my happy dismay, they gave us some in our gift bag! Not only the magnets, but we got booze too! We like booze!! Not only do I love this present, but it so perfectly represents the JJJS friendship:
I had to do a little re-arranging on the side of the fridge to make room, but now I am so happy to have something I've wanted for a super long time!
Hooray! Thanks, girls!

Hawaii: Favorite Photo

Hawaii: Part 2

After a perfect first day in Hawaii, we woke up to do another! We started with a hike through the jungle that had us muddy and sweaty and surrounded by giant leaves. and mosquitoes. those little buggers found me, they always do. After our hike, we hit another beach, perfect for swimming and frolicking, which is just what we did...
That night, we got to get dressed up and go see Nic sing and tour Kim's work. dude, it's swanky. On Sunday, Kim and Nic worked and awesomely enough, let us borrow the motorcycle to do our own exploring.
We checked out Pearl Harbor and then cruised around until we found a nice little spot to take a dip and see if there were any fish to snorkel with.
We had this beach almost to ourselves and saw some fish and cooled off before heading in for lunch.
One of John's ocean goals was to ride some waves and so we stopped at a place where a bunch of people were doing just that. We loved it!!!

For our last day, we went to a resort-y beach for the morning and then back to our favorite beach for the rest of the day. Before packing up for the airport, we sat outside at Waikiki and had drinks and dinner and watched the sun set on a fabulous trip.
Thanks guys, see you soon!

Hawaii: Part 1

We landed in Hawaii late last Thursday and were greeted by a bouncy, happy, tan Kim, who covered us in flowers and to the car where she and Nic whisked us away to their rad apartment , where we giggled and gossiped and had drinks until the wee hours. Moments later, we awoke and headed to a primo snorkeling spot, where we spent a perfect first day. We took pictures in our swimsuits....

We snorkeled for hours and saw all sorts of fishes...
We walked around the beach explored...
We snorkeled some more and followed around this turtle...
By the end of the day, I had almost caught up with Kim's tan....
Stay tuned, I eventually do catch her :)

Adios and Aloha!

Today, we leave to spend a lovely, and warm, weekend in Hawaii with Scabby Fever! Stay tuned next week for pictures of us frolicking in the sunshine in our coconut bras and grass skirts.

In honor of her Scabbiness, I used her old solo song to choreograph the latest Tease and Tone routine. The intention here is that one performs this little dancey dance as their Christmas present to their significant other, maybe in just the light of the Christmas tree, with a fancy scarf or boa, and maybe in a cute little outfit.... just sayin' :)

The reason for the season: Holiday cards!!!!

I love me some holiday cards. More specifically, I love holiday cards that have pictures and letters and that take a ton of time to create, but are so wonderful to receive. I take the time to do it and am giddy with excitement when one lands in my mailbox. I also love it when we go to someone's house at a time other than Christmas and there we are, stuck to the fridge! It actually happens quite a bit and so I try to make sure that we are fridge-worthy every year. I am printing off the letters today and ordered the cards last night. This was an easy year for the picture, because as soon as we saw it, we looked at each other and said "Christmas card." Not to say that we didn't have other pictures we could have used.....

Watch your mailbox!!!
PS: If you are one of my internet friends who hasn't received a card in the past, but would like one, shoot me an email or a facebook or something with your address!)

Celebration weekend!

We decided to commemorate this weekend with a celebration to make up for the despair and fear we had last year at this time. We used the almighty power of Priceline to score ourselves a schwanky hotel room downtown for cheap and with no other plan than to get dressed up and have a good time, took off. After a normal Saturday stop for pizza and beer, we had a glass of wine while we waited for our check in time and as usual, we found ourselves in the middle of endless jokes and laughter with Jen (not those Jens, this is another Jen. We know lots of Jens) and Loren. Jen mentioned they had to close early for a private party that night and wait, we were staying downtown? We should come! Turns out that party was a high end lingerie fashion show for the store next door. um, score. So we went to check into our hotel room (which turned out to be AWESOME) and got ready for dinner. John was faster than me so he waited in the hotel bar while I curled my hair and watched the lights of the city from our little perch.
We had dinner at the City Grill bar (yum) and then headed down to join the party at the wine bar. It looked like this:
It was such a cool place to have a fashion show and the pieces were phenomenal. You have never seen me move so fast to volunteer to be a part of something (fingers crossed for the next one :)) We had wine and laughed at talked with everyone there and after the models were done, it turned into a dance party (below John is shown demonstrating Jen's signature "punching the ground" move. Patent Pending :))
We ended our night with a stop at Roxy for chili fries. perfection.
A few hours, and some sleep, later, we went for a morning walk in the frigid air and landed back at Roxy for some eggs and then gathered our stuff and caught the bus back home. Our Sunday rounded out with a walk to the movie store and a neighborhood bar for some snacks and then home to snuggle with the kitty on the couch and watch movies. A celebration weekend indeed.
