Still catching up the blog with this!
Day 21 - bottle
I'm sorry, but if you missed this show, you really missed a show. it was hilarious.
Day 22- the last thing you bought
Coffee for the recovering patient
Day 23 - vegetable
We've lived here for 8 years and never planted a garden, but carrots grow in our flower box every year.
and it's only fair to include the accompanying conversation....
Katharine Hyzy: Are you certain that's a carrot? It looks suspiciously like a poppy.
Sara Sparkle: yeah im pretty sure thats a poppy they smell just like carrots its so weird.
Shannon Schlothauer: it could totally be a poppy. my thumbs aren't very green.
Jen Hecht: Uh, dude, that's a California poppy. And I love you.
Shannon Schlothauer: you had to tell me the purple flower in my front yard was an artichoke too. I better stick to fishes
Day 24 - something you're grateful for
I could probably write a post a day for a year on this one, but today I am happy for being in a relationship that can weather storms. Better, worse, richer, poorer, sickness, health. We've done them all and we still like each other.
Day 25 - looking down
tiny pools.
Day 26 - black+white
Once upon a time, we found some old photos in a coffee can in the basement of a house that's not in either of our families (don't worry, it was legit). Unable to bear them being lost to the world, I took them home and put them under a cinder block for 6 months to take out the coffee can curl. Then I put them into a photo album and under the cinder block for another 6 months. Finally, they would lay straight. I recently scanned them and they scanned beautifully. This is one of my many favorites.
Day 27 - somewhere you went
to the very edge of the land and then into the air.

Photo Challenge - Weekly Recap
Day 14- how you feel today well, I feel lots today. I'm happy that John feels good on his last Saturday before surgery, I'm relieved to have our taxes (paid, ugh) done. i feel on top of all of my domestic to-dos for the upcoming week: house is clean, groceries gotten, laundry done. I am glad I had time to sunbathe on the new cement for a bit - where I took this pic. As I post this, I feel that I am grateful for a yard guy that I can have come over with a simple text and glad that the neighborhood kitties we feed (represented today by that fluffy black puff) are getting to the point where being in the yard together is OK. While our impending week is epic and scary, I feel calm and prepared as this battle commences.
. Day 15 - sunset oh man, I can't wait to go back to Maui. Day 16 - flower Spring, springing.
Day 17 - something you don't like I have to say when I scanned the April Challenge topics, I didn't know what I'd put for this one. I pretty much see the world through rose colored glasses. Little did I know that since the time I first saw it and the actual day, that my husband would be re-diagnosed with cancer and surgery would be scheduled for today. I can honestly say that I do not like the time between when my husband is taken from me for surgery prep and the time before I talk to the doctor post-surgery. Day 18 - hair He can't stop me from posting this because he can't catch me :)
Day 19 - orange This house's yard full of orange tulips make me happy every day coming home from the hospital.
Day 20 - something you drew Funny timing, I just ran across this doodle that I was doing when I was pondering my shoulder tat.

Something awesome
I have long threatened to pave our yard. I guess that spinning it as a pathway for the bike worked because this spring, John agreed with me! We got a referral from Nic and Kim and got a good deal and made it happen!!
Before -
During - NO TRESPASSING!
After - TA DA!
It's so neat and clean. I have been suntanning in the back and yesterday we worked on our fence in the front. When we were done, I was able to sweep away the sawdust. I even washed my car so that it was clean enough to sit on the fancy new cement!

Photo Challenge: Weekly recap
Day 30 - toy
Pickles' favorite color is purple. It's hilariously true and since our first idea that she had a preference, we've done all we can to prove it. These purple sparkle balls have become the clear winner of the toy collection and we find them under every piece of furniture in the house. If you rescue one and hold it up for her, she is captivated until you give in and drop it. She will not give the same attention to a green one.
Day 31 - where you relax
I am not a very good relaxer. But if I'm a couple hundred miles from home, on the back of the bike, temp about 90 degrees and the only goal is putting miles of road under the tires...i cant take it pretty easy.
APRIL!
Day 1 - your reflection
yes, this is in the bathroom because I just read the April list as I was waiting for the show to start. 'The show' being something that I had students and teammates in. The reflection will not be just these awesome tights in the theatre mirror, but that being a teacher and having students is simply unbeatable. I am so proud when I see them on stage and can pinpoint the tiny little trait that makes every one of them the best dancer out there. goddam, I'm lucky to have dance in my life.
Day 2 - color
Primary colors: red, yellow, blue, dinosaur
Day 3 - mail
A birthday package with a present from my mom and a present from my niece.
Day 4 - someone who makes you happy
This one seems kind of obvious.
*The blurriness is from the laughing which I think makes the photo better than if it was in focus. its f*ing art, dudes.
Day 5 - tiny
Dear Baby Ahzi, This is a scale from your predecessor. You're not the monster you think you are quite yet.

Supporting the Arts
Emily, who often pours wine for us on rainy Saturdays, invited us to an exclusive art show at the wine bar over the weekend. Her son, Gunnar, wants to attend a fancy art camp this summer and was going to sell his pieces to help pay for it.
Since we have quite a collection of bar art, we were excited to attend and were happy to be there early enough to snag this sweet piece for our kitchen. It is called "Real Men Drink Red Wine"
Here the young artist discusses the summer camp with another customer.
and with his proud mama :)
